Sheikhupura is named after the famous Mughal Prince Saleem Jahangeer, affectionately called Sheikhu Baba. He built Hiran Minar to adorn the city and castle of Sheikhupura to defend it. Later on Shah Jehan chipped in to cast the eternal impressions of Mughal Empire on the land of Sheikhupura.
The District Sheikhupura shares its borders with districts of Lahore, Gujranwala, Jhang, Faisalabad and Amaratsar (India). By and large, the district of Sheikhupura is an agrarian district. However, it is in transit from agrarian to industrial & information district. The area is affluent with the industries of an array of categories. The district consists of four Tehsils i.e. Sheikhupura, Ferozwala, Safdraabad and Nankana Sahib. It is inhabited by 3.5 million people.
